On 23 October 1911, the revolutionary army captured the Manchu castle of Xi'an.  Victims of the Manchu overlords numbered up to 2,000 (another source says 5,000).  The racial conflict between the Manchu and Han came to a peak during the Xinhai revolutions. Many Manchus changed their names as a Han Chinese to protect themselves.  There are still many aspects worth researching about the assimilation of Manchurians.
