Saaremaa meteorite crater. A meteorite enters the Earth's atmosphere, breaking up and striking Saaremaa as a shower. At least nine craters are formed by the impact, and the biggest becomes known as Lake Kaali (Kaali järv). The event is remembered by means of the native people's oral tradition and in archaic runes. Kalevala (Estonian epos)47 runo gives a very realistic description of fire falling from the sky that burns houses, fields, fens and humans.
