The pilothouse of the ALTADOC. She was a gift shop and two-room mini resort when I first visited The Harbor as a kid. She was driven aground at Copper Harbor and destroyed by a winter storm that packed hurricane force winds of up to 70 miles an hour on Dec. 8, 1927. In the summer of 1966, I was standing with my family to the right of the Pilot House when I told my folks that I was going to live in Copper Harbor some day. I still miss that gift shop. It was destroyed by fire March 22, 1987.
Copper Harbor, Michigan Sunset --- WOW how beautiful is that! )I loved gathering as many rocks as I could from there... the rocks on the beach are the colors of the sunset... even after you take them home... I am SO glad I found this picture on Pinterest!)
Keweenaw Brewing Company, Houghton Great place (outdoor patio, indoor fireplace) to kick-back and enjoy fine craft beer and cream sodas. Seasonal favorites include Keweenaw Belle, Kesalla Olutta and Black Cherry Cream Soda. Bring your own food or enjoy roasted peanuts. Great soundtrack, as well.
Pilothouse Gift Shop -- no longer there -- but to the left of the building is the spot I was standing as an 8-year-old when I told my parents I was going to live there some day ... Now I get to do that every summer until we move there permanently in May/June of 2018!
