Vocab Word Wall - after introducing new vocab during reading groups, the words get added to the wall. We check off every time a student uses the word in speaking or writing. When a word has  10 checks, we retire it to the "More Wonderful Words" list. That way the words are still visible, but new words can be added to the pocket chart. Have the students make their writing "more colorful" by using paint strips. Write a boring adjective at the bottom of the paint strip on the most boring color. Give each student a paint strip and they can use a thesaurus or a word wall to think of "more colorful" words for their strip. Put the best word on the brightest part of the strip. I would have this hanging on my wall so that students can see what they need to work on instead of the teacher reminding them everything. I think students would enjoy this because it is a good see where they are and what they need to work on when they write. Also if a student is stuck on one thing another student can help them
