I Think I Need a Therapist

Jack Sprat could eat no fat, His wife could eat no lean; And so betwixt them both, They lick'd the platter clean.

Goosey, goosey, gander, Whither dost thou wander? Upstairs and downstairs And in my lady's chamber. There I met an old man Who wouldn't say his prayers; I took him by the left leg, And threw him down the stairs While Mother Goose seems like a kind, grandmotherly sort, the gander in this rhyme appears to be quite a bastard. This sixteenth century rhyme is a reminder to children to always say their prayers. L. Leslie Brooke illustration
