I love this idea but I bet I could use a city map of my neighborhood as my guide. Parks would be done in green fabric, the creek that runs past my house would be blue, etc. City Grid: A Modern Mini by @swimbikequilt
Granny Square block using some alternate assembly instructions that use triangles instead of squares for the background fabric. Links provided for instructions. This quilter found this method easier to work with overall because of there not being bias edges all around and because there's no waste of background fabric.
