Erica Sorensen – 1st Grade Miss Sorensen received her B.A. in Biology from Whitman College in 2007. After working at St. Thomas School in Medina, WA as an Instructional Assistant for two years, she decided to get her Masters in Teaching and finished Seattle Pacific University's A.R.C. program in 2010.
Stacy- 3 years, 2 months Education: Master’s in Library and Information Science from San Jose State University Job duties What don’t I do? I order books, catalog books, check in books, and shelve books. I sign people up for library cards and answer questions about their accounts. I edit podcasts of events that take place at the library. I interview people about their memories of the 1972 Black Hills Flood and write metadata for Flood photographs. The list goes on!
Ethan Benson – 3rd Grade Mr. Benson graduated with honors and a varsity letter in crew from USC where he received a BA in Russian in 1993, and a Masters in Education in 1996. He has worked in education for 15 years teaching 1st-4th grade, as well as 6th grade math and PE to Pre-K through 8th grade.
Kirsten Johns – Kindergarten Ms. Johns graduated with honors from both Central Washington University for her BA in Elementary Education and the University of North Dakota for her Masters in Education with an emphasis on gifted education. She has been teaching kindergarten through 2nd grade for over 9 years at Seattle Country Day School (one of Soundview's PNAIS peer schools) and is excited to be a part of Soundview as a parent and a teacher.
Matt Stenovec – 5th, 6th and 8th Humanities Mr. Stenovec earned his BA in Environmental Humanities from Whitman College and prior to teaching at Soundview taught ecology and conservation in Yellowstone National Park and Sophomore English at Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Nani Christensen – Junior Kindergarten Ms. Nani has a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Butler University. Prior to moving to Washington, she worked over sixteen years in the kindergarten program at Punahou School in Honolulu, a prestigious independent school in Hawaii.
Michael Fleming – Science Mr. Fleming received his BS in Biology and minor in Chemistry from The College of New Jersey. He also received his MS in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Prior to teaching at Soundview, he was the Life and Earth Science/Math Teacher at Seattle Waldorf High School.
Gifted students do not just need to be given more work, or be helpers to classmates on assignments when they finish early. These tips are great reminders on how to differentiate, and keep gifted students' needs in mind.
Li-Ting Hung – Art Ms. Hung received a B.S. in Earth Science and Geography from Bridgewater State in Massachusetts, an M.A. in Human Geography from West Virginia University, and an M.S. in Architecture from the University of Cincinnati. She has worked as a visual and language arts teacher at Victoria Academy, Elementary and Junior High School, in Toulou, Taiwan, and in Seattle.
