Hans J Wegner was born in 1914 in Tønder, south of Denmark. At just age 17, he completed his apprenticeship as a cabinetmaker. At age 20, Hans moved to Copenhagen, Denmark to attend the school of Arts and Crafts. In 1943, Hans Wegner opened up his own drawing office where he designed the first China Chair in his chair series. The Wishbone Chair, designed and produced with Carl Hanson and Søn, went on to become Han's most successful design of all time.
