"Big Self-Portrait" by Chuck Close between 1967-68. Although it seems to be a photograph it's actually acrylic on canvas. This painting is almost 9 feet by 11 feet in size and took four months to complete. He started with a photograph and drew a grid on the photo where he then carefully transferred the image square by square onto the large canvas. In his photo the back of his hair and the tip of his cigarette were out of focus so he painted them that way in his portrait.
