King Trisong Deutsen. Tibetan King at the height of power is moved by Buddhist teachings to invite Shantarakshita and Padmasambhava to help establish Buddhism Tibet. This becomes a major project involving hundreds of foreign scholars and the training of Tibetan translators and monks. A backlash from jealous Bonpos was inevitable but the king's efforts insured the spread of the doctrine in Tibet.
