The War that Saved My Life by Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. First-rate, can't-miss historical fiction with characters you will both love and hate. I absolutely adored this one. For middle schoolers, but I'm not sure who wouldn't enjoy this.
My October 2014 Book Fairy pick, THE NIGHT GARDENER by Jonathan Auxier // Spooky, but engaging story about two orphans in Victorian England who are trying to escape the deathly grip the spooky night time visitor has on the home that they work in. Rich in details and a sure-fire page turner.
Widowed college librarian Percy Darling planned to enjoy his seventies in the idyllic setting of his historic village home in Massachusetts. Instead, his newly-divorced daughter has convinced him to convert his barn into a preschool so that she may work there. This disruption leads to more unsettling developments and Percy soon finds everyone from an illegal gardener to his pre-med grandson in need of crisis intervention.
