City of Stairs- The city of Bulikov once wielded the powers of the gods to conquer the world, enslaving and brutalizing millions—until its divine protectors were killed. Into this broken city steps Shara Thivani, an accomplished spy, dispatched to catch a murderer; but as Shara pursues the killer, she starts to suspect that the beings who ruled this terrible place may not be as dead as they seem—and that Bulikov's cruel reign may not yet be over.
"Who hasn't dreamed, on a mundane Monday or frowzy Friday, of chucking it all in and packing off to the south of France? Provençal cookbooks and guidebooks entice with provocatively fresh salads and azure skies, but is it really all Côtes-du-Rhône and fleur-de-lis? Author Peter Mayle answers that question with wit, warmth, and wicked candor in A Year in Provence, the chronicle of his own foray into Provençal domesticity."
A sequel of sorts to "The Stress of Her Regard". Years later, the Rosettis and others are attempting to save themselves and London from the plots of the Nephilim. Powers writes another beautiful novel.
Amazing book by Dan Simmons mixing hard sci-fi with Greek mythology. Here are some of the awesome things he's managed to put into this story so far: the Trojan war "re-enacted" on Mars, dinosaurs, little green men, semi-organic AIs debating Shakespeare and Proust, and Odysseus being a BAMF. And I'm only halfway through.
