8 July 1953 - 62 years ago today near Sokkogae, Korea, Richard Thomas Shea's inspirational leadership and unflinching courage set an illustrious example of valor to the men of his regiment who was last seen fighting in hand to hand combat with the enemy. 1LT Shea would be posthumously awarded the MOH for his actions that day.

Medal of Honor, World War I (1918): Pictured as a cadet in 1923, Earle D. Gregory (electrical engineering '23), known as the "Sgt. York of Virginia," was the first Virginian to receive the Medal of Honor in World War I. At Bois de Consenvoye, France, on Oct. 18, 1918, he single-handedly captured 22 German soldiers and two machine guns, saving countless American lives. The Corps of Cadets' Gregory Guard precision drill team is named in his honor.
