The ex-dentist, Dr. Frank J. Cohen, had a long association with Lavanburg-Corner House (later Youth House). When the School of Social Work was established at NYU, he joined the program as Consultant on Community Relations.
Gertrude Elion, 1983 Nobel Prize in Medicine (co-winner). Awarded for Elion’s work on drug research, her scientific discoveries in 1984 helped lay the foundation for the development of the AIDS drug AZT. Elion received her Master of Science degree from NYU in 1942.
