An old fashioned way to cross over a stone wall...without the need for a gate. Often seen in countrysides with stone walls. Think New England and British isles. Great solution for livestock pastures with no concerns about a gate breaking down.
Swaledale Barn in North Yorkshire, by metrisk on flickr. Swaledale is the northernmost dale within the Yorkshire Dales National Park; and considered by many as one of the most beautiful. The photographer here states the entire dale is “littered with beautiful stone barns and dry stone walls." I love me some stone fences.
