‘The Last Supper’ (1543), by Giorgio Vasari, was badly damaged in 1966, when the Arno River flooded the streets of Florence. Considered impossible to restore for many years, the painting recently underwent a painstaking restoration, funded by the Getty Foundation and Prada. As part of the project, launched in 2009, experts removed conservation paper, tissue paper and Kleenex that had been applied to the piece immediately after the flood.
