MV Melbourne Star arrives in the Grand Harbour, Valetta on 13th August 1942. She was one of the five merchant ships that reached Malta in the crucial resupply of Malta in Operation Pedestal. The other Blue Star line ship in the convoy, MV Brisbane Star, also reached Malta. Melbourne Star lost 14 crew during this operation. She only had eight months left. on 2nd April '43 she was torpedoed and almost immediately sank, of her crew and passengers there were just 11 survivors.

Aquitania is thought to have been the most beautiful of all the four-stackers.  In fact, she even earned herself the nickname as the "Ship Beautiful".  Even today, her name brings the image of the illustrious pre-World War I floating palaces.  She was long and slender, and had four funnels, which all worked, which means that they were all used to disperse smoke and exhausts, instead of any number of them being ventilators.  Furthermore, she had a pleasing counter stern.
