Shikoku Pilgrimage called Ohenro(お遍路) is to walk and visit the 88 temples in Tokushima, Kouchi, Ehime, Kagawa prefecture. The local government is insisting that the route qualifies for a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The Shikoku pilgrimage is said to have been founded by the priest Kukai, also known as Kobo Daishi. Renowned for his calligraphy, he's depicted here in a massive sculpture above Ishite-ji Temple in Matsuyama. #Shikoku #pilgrimage #Ohenro #Matsuyama #Ishiteji
Iyo Kokubun-ji is temple No. 59 on the Shikoku pilgrimage. The temple is located in the countryside outside Imabari. In the temple grounds is the grave of Nitta Yoshisada, who helped overthrow the Hōjō Clan at the end of the Kamakura Period. This is the only temple on the pilgrimage belonging to the Shingon Ritsu Sect. #shikokupilgrimage #ohenro #Buddhism
