Viking Disc Brooch with Animal Frieze A flat-section disc brooch with central hole, ring with radiating S-curved lines, domed rivet with incised saltire and beaded rim; the plate with three recessed panels separated by notched spokes and similar outer rim, each panel with a reserved Style I beast contorted to fit the confines of the panel; pin-loop and catchplate to the reverse. 33 grams, 47mm (2").
29.67 mm. 9th-11th century AD. A classic form of Viking or Anglo-Scandinavian disc brooch, with a panel of four radiating arms developing into a complex Borre Style motif. The catchplate and pin-lug are present on the reverse.
