IAEA holds workshop in Asia on using nuclear technique to fight disease-spreading mosquitos.  Organised in partnership with the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the week-long meeting brings together more than 50 scientists and public health experts from around 40 countries in Asia, Africa and the Americas to learn about the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) – an environmentally friendly birth control method for insect pests.

How much do crop yields depend on bees?  So much so that increasing bee populations could increase the production of some 2 billion smallholder farmers worldwide, and help ensure the food security and nutrition of the world’s growing population.  And it wouldn’t cost the farmers anything, according to a recent field study conducted by the United Nations Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO), and published in Science magazine.
