I am alive, I am beautiful, I am risen from the ashes.....
It didn't look hopeful for this filly. She was severely malnourished. Not only was there concern for her digestive system to function properly but her legs weren't straight due to lack of nutrients needed for normal development. Despite that, no one gave up.
Multiple small feedings throughout the days and nights was helping her gain some strength, but the vet was very concerned about the development of her legs.
Spring 2013 she and her best friend Raven (who was rescued in the same herd with Phoenix) waiting for afternoon pellets.
One week after being rescued she showed everyone that she had the heart and will to live. She was named "Misty" because every time we looked at her it brought tears to our eyes to see how fragile and emaciated she was.
Day 14 and she continues to show improvement.
4 months later and the transformation is incredible. Still needs weight and then to work on muscle, but she is healthy, and her legs are finally starting to look like a normal filly's legs should!
Neighbors and concerned horse lovers contacted numerous horse rescues as well as the local sheriff. Bales of hay were brought to the field by until the authorities forced the owners to surrender the 9 horses still alive.
Now a yearling she is simply the most feminine looking horse we are blessed to own. Not only is she beautiful on the outside, but she has the personality and temperament to match.
