Besides a wintry blanket of snow, downtown workers were greeted by a beautiful sight on Monument Circle on Dec. 4, 1962. The Merchants Association, which footed the light bill for the Circle decorations, agreed to keep the gigantic "tree" lighted from 6:30 until 8 a.m. so that early passersby might enjoy it. This was the first year of the lighting of the "World's Largest Christmas Tree".  Photo by Larry George.
