Sir John Grant, 6th Laird of Freuchie - 14th Maternal Great Grandfather.  Father of James Grant, 7th Laird of Freuchie.  Convener of the Justices of the Peace in the counties of Inverness and Cromarty.  In March 1637, he went to Edinburgh, and on his arrival he was imprisoned on a charge of not pursuing the Clan Gregor, but shortly after he was liberated. He died at Edinburgh on the 1st of April, 1637, and was interred in the Chapel of Holyrood.

Grant Family Crest, w/ "family motto" A Nottinghamshire land-owner named Le Grand obtained land in Strathspey in the 13th century, founding the powerful clan which spread over Strathspey and the Grampian mountains into Aberdeenshire. The Grants Clan supported Robert the Bruce in the 14th century and John and Randolph de Grant were captured at the Battle of Dunbar in 1296. The first authenticated chief of the Highland clan was Sir Ian Grant who was Sheriff of Inverness in 1434.

John Charles Ogilvy-Grant, 7th Earl of Seafield  ( 1815 – 1881), styled Viscount Reidhaven from 1840 to 1853, was a Scottish nobleman. Seafield was the eldest son of Francis William Ogilvy-Grant, 6th Earl of Seafield, & Mary Ann Dunn. From 1853 until 1858 he sat in the House of Lords as a Scottish Representative Peer. The latter year he was created Baron Strathspey, of Strathspey in the Counties of Inverness & Moray, in the Peerage of the United Kingdom.
