7/2/2013-Pierce Brosnan's daughter died after a 3 yr battle with ovarian cancer at age 41. "My darling daughter Charlotte Emily passed on to eternal life having succumbed to ovarian cancer. Charlotte fought her cancer with grace and humanity, courage and dignity." Sadly, ovarian cancer has been a curse in the family. His first wife, Cassandra, died of ovarian cancer in 1991 when she was just 43. It's a legacy of doom that haunts women who carry a virulent gene for breast and ovarian cancer.

George Jones has died today ... One of the last truly great Country and Western singers (they don't even call themselves that any more - they're Country singers or whatever) ... I LOVE his song He Stopped Loving Her Today ... R.I.P. Mr Jones ... you may have had many troubles in your talented life but you survived them with grace and dignity ... you will be greatly missed!

06/23/2014...Longtime Capital Region reporter Judy Sanders passed away today at the age of 63. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer & in typical Judy style she was too tough to go when doctors told her she would, hanging on six months past their best predictions. From what I have read and heard she never asked 'why me' and lived her final days with dignity and grace. Heartfelt condolences to her family at this difficult time.

In Being Mortal, the ever thoughtful surgeon and author Atul Gawande asks us to think about what it really means to age gracefully and die with dignity when modern medicine can do so much to extend life. And challenges us to examine the real costs of prolonged medical treatment when the evidence is mounting that we are not necessarily improving life at the end.
