PRINCE ALBERT’S GIFT TO A YOUNG QUEEN VICTORIA: The Indian Tiara — A Royal Family heirloom. Created by Prince Albert for his young wife. The original tiara had opals which were changed to rubies by Queen Alexandra who feared opals. The tiara is an heirloom often worn by the Queen Mother and now worn by the Queen.
Queen Victoria decided against the traditional royal silver wedding dress and wore a dress of rich pure white satin, trimmed with orange flower blossoms. The lace which formed the flounce of the dress was Honiton lace; it measured four yards, and was three quarters of a yard wide.
