1700-1750 French-Canadian Armoire at the Canadian Museum of Civilization, Gatineau - This shows clearly the diamond/lozenge pattern that was popular in Canada in the 18th century.  At the time this piece was made, such decoration was already well out of fashion in France, where it was used in the reign of King Louis XIII.  However, what happened in French-Canadian pieces, rather than a switch from one style to the next, was an integration of elements from different stylistic periods.

The elegant turned arms and legs with high stretchers are Circassian Walnut that has a lustrous color and rich glowing patination , upholstered with period tapestry. Made in France circa 1630. H x 37"W x 25" D x 18"
