During his days with Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians, he used his childhood nickname, "Lumpy." The Captain, on the right, was played by Bob Keeshan, the original Clarabell the Clown on the Howdy Doody Show. Captain Kangaroo aired for nearly 30 years on CBS, from 1955 to 1984.
