Montreal's annual summer fireworks competition! One country competes each week. I was in town to see France's firework (technically the USA's too, but I was working that night and didn't get out), which I watched from Mount Royal with a band of renegade raccoons and a bunch of Québécois.
Jean Talon Market: An indoor-outdoor food extravaganza that puts most urban markets to shame. You'll find the freshest seasonal Canadian bounty, cheese, meats, spices, and spreads of all kinds — all fresh from the farm. Not to mention a unique shop specializing in Quebec's finest: maple butter/sugar/wine, microbrews, foie gras, confit de canard.
