For #Handtoolthursday  I present my Type 4 Self Setting Stanley Gage G5C.  The Self Setting patented design removed the need for lateral adjustment which in turn eliminated any slop in blade movement (in theory). In 1919 Stanley bought Gage Tool Co primarily for their frog design which would allow them to compete with Sargents Auto-Set planes.  Youll note the similarities between the two lines.  The type study is much easier being they were only produced until the 2nd World War (1919-1941)…
