Meet Tom Hanchett: Staff historian at Levine Museum of the New South and interpreter of Charlotte's last 100 years.

July 4, 1754, Fort Necessity, PA.   This was the July 4th when George Washington was overwhelmed and surrendered during the French and Indian War.  The tide turned later in the war and the British won.  If they had lost we would be speaking French.

Washington attacked a detachment of French soldiers, and French fought back. This increasely led to the battle called French and Indian War.
