Founded in 1892 by the Northern Pacific Railway (now the BNSF Railway), Lester is located at an elevation of 1,634 feet above sea level along  what is currently National Forest Development Road 54. Its population in 1908 was 250. The forest service maintained a weather station in  one of the abandoned houses in the 1970s. The population at that time was 10. Lester's population is now 0.
