Cal Ripken, Jr. [baseball] "Iron Man" achieved the impossible: he broke Lou Gehrig's (Iron Horse) record for most consecutive games played without a rest. Whereas Gehrig was humble, Ripken was selfish regarding "The Streak". Cal needed to rest  since he would slump, and blocked rookies. Cal was a natural leader who led by example, and created an image of being the tireless dedicated loyal worker. But he was influential behind the scenes as well, and had more power than managers. Cal Ripken Jr played in consecutive games which spanned over 17 years. He voluntairly ended his streak in Ripken was elected in the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007 on his first ballot.
