Oh my word! Where do active teenage boys put all this?!! This protein-packed lunch was prepped under Tyson's guidance last night for a busy day today. *** Frikadels, nuts & dry wors sausage, with fruit & veg. And there's a bag of popcorn to snack on for before his afternoon sport!! #ActiveGrowingKidsNeedFuel ⚽️⛳️
After a good giggle at yesterday, I thought I'd share some with the kids today. 😄 The Espresso cups are the perfect size to hold snacks, and fit snugly into a Sistema lunchbox without spilling. And the makes a return!
Droëwors (Dry Wors) is a popular South African snack food that is full of protein and easy for kids to eat during lunchbreak. A few 'fingers' of it, held together with a coloured rubber band, adds a little #FunInLunch for the kids today. Please note the two lonely baby tomatoes… home-grown by the 11 year old. After tasting 1 of the 3 that were proudly harvested yesterday, Xavier proclaimed that they were indeed good enough to include in his lunchbox today
Fri-YAY for Kayla because it’s Pizza Day at school. Just a few snacks are needed to get her through to second break ... and THE PIZZA!!! Silicone cups are fabulous for filling with different food and adding a touch of #FunInLunch. Use cups that are at least as tall as the lunchbox, and then the contents won’t mess up once you put the lid on. (except for liquids… DO NOT send liquids in silicon cups!!)
A cute little Food Pick in the chunks of cheese today… alongside a honey sandwich, some biltong, cucumber & naartjie. No one can possibly accuse me of spending hours on this lunchbox!! #KeepingItReal but still a touch of #FunInLunch :) PS: After I took this photo, I reconsidered the effect of an open Honey sandwich in a Primary Schooler’s lunchbox ... and wrapped it up before sending to school. #StickySticky
Parents have mentioned that I am 'lucky' to have kids who will eat healthy foods. Please don't be fooled that this is 'luck', or that they don't also eat their share of crap too!! Ha ha My kids' lunchboxes have more-often-than-not come back half-eaten in the past; I have begged, bribed and threatened like most mums; but I have also been consistent in including the majority of healthIER snacks in their lunch boxes, and of course, taken those few extra moments to add some #FunInLunch
Xav had a tough rugby match yesterday and I was sure he was going to wake up very sore & stiff this morning. So I made an extra special #FunInLunch for him as I packed the lunchboxes last night ... Left over lamb curry anyone?! A blob of glue to hold each googly eye in place, and this is one of those stick-on moustaches that I use for dressing up lunches in Mo-vember. I am sure he’s going to have some fun with that!!
No one can accuse me of spending too long adding some #FunInLunch for Kayla today! Haha !! Still trying to encourage her to eat the fruit and veg, so I have included a Princess cupcake topper in an effort to make it more attractive. And by including smaller pieces of different fruit, there’s a chance she may actually eat some of it #KeepItReal
Xavier's grade is going an outing to the Botanical Gardens today and they were asked to bring lunch in a disposable packet… TA DA! An ice-cream container works perfectly with a few trimmed paper cups fitting perfectly to hold the stuff. And a frozen fruit juice will help keep the contents cool - and should be a cold slushie juice by the time they stop for a break
