Teco Pottery circa 1915 - Around 1885, William Day Gates established Gates Potteries in Crystal Lake, Illinois. After years of trial and error, he developed a cool, silvery green matte glaze that resembled the tones of aged bronze. Combining the first letters of the words terra and cotta, Gates named the new pottery Teco and began selling the line in 1900.
