Proportion. This illustration from 'Alice in Wonderland' by John Tenniel is an example of proportion failed! Proportion in art is the size relationship of parts to the entire whole. While eating the tiny cake may have done this particular indignity to Alice (large head, tiny feet, elongated torso), Lewis Carrol was nonetheless critical of Tenniel's work for what he maintained was a consistent lack of proportion in Alice across all the drawings.
