Scotland Sunrise, Sea, Architecture and History - Abbey road: Christianity was brought to Iona by Saint Columba in A.D. 563. In 1203, a Benedictine monastery was founded on the site of the present abbey, which was restored in the early 1900s.
The amazing Kirkwell Abbey in Orkney Islands, historians say that the Vikings thousands of years ago would moor their ships to the side of the abbey wall. This place is steeped in history! My Gunn ancestors lived and died here eventually emigrating to the Highlands.......many Gunns are buried here!
