Toulouse-Lautrec - Aristede Bruand at His Cabaret: 1893

La Goulue - Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec; lithograph; 1891. When the Moulin Rouge opened, a six-foot version of this poster was displayed near the entrance, and made Toulouse-Lautrec famous overnight. The inclusion of La Goulue (the Glutton, a dancer) herself is obvious; Toulouse-Lautrec can also be seen in the silhouettes at the back (the shortest top hat- an illness he suffered as a child severely stunted his growth), while the silhouette (front) is the boneless acrobat Valentin le Désossé.
