The background is soft pastels done first. I erased excess pastels off of the shapes in the picture (like leaves and birds) worth an eraser before spraying with workable fixative. The colored pencils are some over the top of the workable fixative.
The last few weeks I have enjoyed many hours of happy colouring! I'm taking my time with Johanna Basford's colouring book so I've finished only one page yet! I waited a while continuing colouring 'The Secret Door' because I wasn't sure how I wanted to continue the drawing, which colours I wanted to use, etc. And I bought a new pencil sharpener. No more blunt pencils for me!
