Beautiful 4d rate franking for an up to 2oz package, sent from Waterford (Ireland) to Guernsey uprated with a 1d black Pl.10 horizontal strip of three lettered FA-FC (Small tear at right hand side of FC) neatly cancelled and tied by black MC's with a crisp Waterford datestamp on reverse for JU.26.1841. The world's first postage stamp was issued by Great Britain in 1840. Featuring a bust of Queen Victoria, it has come to be known as the "Penny Black." It also marked the introduction of "uniform penny postage" in a mail system: the rate to carry a letter to ANY destination within the country was now the same, and not based on distance carried.
