James Byron Dean was an American actor. He is a cultural icon of teenage disillusionment, as expressed in the title of his most celebrated film, Rebel Without a Cause, in which he starred as troubled Los Angeles teenager Jim Stark.

Jimmy is mentioned in two classic songs, "Jack and Diane" by John Mellencamp and "American Pie" by Don McLean. "Jack and Diane": "Scratches his head and does his best James Dean." "American Pie": "In a coat he borrowed from James Dean."
