Silk evening dress, British, ca Low body, deep front point; box pleats and directional pleats in skirt. Trim is box pleated ruched ribbon between a blonde lace and a black lace; singular on sleeves, doubled on skirt.

Centennial ball gown, ca. 1876. Many party guests wore Colonial attire. Old silk in storage was remodeled into new clothes.This is a mix: half 18th century half Victorian. Bodice, reconstructed with Victorian boning petersham, retains original sleeves. Petticoat was remade into bustle shape. Pale peach taffeta hand-embroidered with ivory silk floss medallions. Some of them were cut out of extra fabric and appliquéd as borders around the neckline and sleeves. Vintage Textile

The fabric has stalks of grain and large blossoms, common motifs in Worth's designs. Acquired by the Phoenix Art Museum Collection in 2007 for the exhibit "After Dark: 100 Years of the Evening Dress."
