Elizabeth I, Queen of England and Ireland The daughter of Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, she succeeded her half sister Mary in November 1558. Known as the ‘Virgin Queen’, she had a reign of 44 years and was the last Tudor monarch. Elizabeth died on 24 March 1603 at Richmond Palace. Her remains were buried beside her half sister, Mary I at Westminster Abbey.
