I’m pretty desensitized to sculptures of men astride horses, oversized busts and battle scenes, as far as monuments testifying to a country’s strength are concerned. However, the Yugoslavian government of the 1960s and ’70s took an alternative approach to nationalism with a slew of futuristic monuments constructed to commemorate World War II. These avant garde sculptures, now in virtual ruin, are located in present-day Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia and Bosnia.
