L2254 - Photographed on 3.10.1896, this is the large girder bridge that was built to take the Last Main Line across the Trent. A forest of temporary wooden frames supports the infant structure whilst the piers are constructed. Note the distinctive outline of a steam crane at work on the far end of the bridge.
