This shot was taken in the print shop at Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan. I really liked the dark look of the metal and was originally planning on a black and white image, but I liked the look of the wood cabinet in the back. The image was created from 3 exposures, blended in Photomatix with some additional processing in Photoshop CS6.
Here's a view of the famous Jeffrey pine on Sentinel Dome in Yosemite. This tree died in 1976, but it's photogenic snag lingered until 2003 when it finally toppled. No one knows whether it fell down naturally or was aided by someone climbing on it. I made this photograph in 1996 when a band of low, scudding clouds provided a perfect backdrop to the tree. Whenever I can, I get the window seat on a plane. You never know what magic may show up on the window screen. On my way from Korea to Indonesia I happen to glance out at sunset. There was this theatrical display of clouds, thunder and lightening and of course the never-ending, always riveting sunset. It was heaps better than the movie playing inside.
