Édith Giovanna Gassion , renamed Édith Piaf, France’s Little Sparrow, was born on December 19, 1915 in Belleville, Paris.   She was discovered singing on the streets of Paris, and her immense talent and vocal style brought her world recognition.  During WWII Édith became the voice of France during the German occupation, bringing emotion and hope to all who heard her sing.  Édith died in 1963, a legendary woman who had become the voice of France.
