October Arch Hoxsey, pioneer aviator, was born (d. Hoxsey was amongst one of the first Wright pilots to fly the Wrights’ new Model B aircraft after having been trained by Orville on the model A-B which was a transitional aircraft.
January Birth of Allan Haines Loughead, later changed to Allan Haines Lockheed, American aviation pioneer and engineer. He formed the Alco Hydro-Aeroplane Company along with his brother, Malcolm Loughead that became Lockheed Corporation.
The day after Fay Gillis Wells soloed, she was forced to parachute from the experimental aircraft she piloted during a test flight. After earning her pilots license in Curtis Wright hired her to demonstrate and sell his airplanes.
Chicago-O'Hare Airport's (KORD) new runway, is now open. Aviation Universe is located in downtown Bensenville off the southwest corner of the field, by the new runway. It is now a prime location for Aircraft Spotters!
