Near the village the valley narrows Adige, coming to form the "Shaking Salurn" or "Lock Salurn" (Salurner Klause). For centuries the close has been a natural barrier between the German-and Italian-speaking (today Trentino) of historical Tyrol and is traditionally considered the boundary between the area of language and the Germanic language of Italian.
