Beatrice Alice Allsop (b 1882) went to France in 1914 as part of the QAIMNS. In Aug 1916, she was serving at No.33 casualty clearing station at Bethune, when it was hit by a German shell. She was wounded while in the operating theatre, along with several other nurses. Nonetheless, the nurses successfully moved the 260 patients to safety in the cellars & continued their work through hours of shelling. They were decorated on Aug 17, 1916, & were the first female recipients of the Military…
