Bennie Thompson is the U.S. Representative for Mississippi's 2nd congressional district, serving since 1993, and ranking member of the Committee on Homeland Security since 2001. Thompson earned a B.A. in political science from historically black Tougaloo College in 1968 and an M.S. in educational administration from historically black Jackson State University in 1973. He served as an alderman, then mayor of Bolton before being elected to the Hinds County Board of Supervisors.
Hinds County Courthouse - Built during 1857-1859. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and revered as one of the most perfect examples of Greek Revival architecture in the United States, this beautiful building served as a hospital for wounded soldiers during the Civil War.
